Food Challenges Facing Jefferson County Residents - a Report

The Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH) Food Systems Team has released “Recovery, Rebuilding and Resilience: Centering Community to Create a Food Secure Jefferson County,” a report containing nearly three years of qualitative and quantitative data assessing the food challenges facing Jefferson County residents. The COVID-19 pandemic elevated the ongoing urgency for conversation and action around addressing food insecurity. This paper aims to introduce key variables impact food access for residents, while sharing the successes and challenges experienced during the COVID-19 emergency food response and providing recommendations through policy, programming, funding and capacity building to build a long-term recovery approach to community-centered food systems. We hope this paper provides considerations to address both the urgent need and long-term, sustainable approaches to addressing food insecurity for a more resilient local food system.
