Nourishing Neighbors (formerly known as Hunger Is), an initiative of the Albertsons Companies Foundation, has established a fund to help local families impacted by the current crisis. This new opportunity includes two priority areas. For both opportunities, intermediary organizations, sponsors, and schools can apply for funding.
- Innovation Fund: Are you planning to get started with a new project focusing on hunger relief that will help positively impact your community? If yes, then you are highly encouraged to apply for this grant.
- Addressing food insecurity amongst marginalized communities (Black, Indigenous and People of Color): Nourishing Neighbors fund will prioritize organizations that are serving the most vulnerable and marginalized communities.
Programs eligible for funding can include (but are not limited to):
- Connecting people to federal programs
- Backpack programs and alternatives to school meals
- Transportation
- Food purchasing
- Capacity
- Technical Assistance
- Equipment, PPE, and packaging

Application Process
The grant application invitation can be found here. Once you are logged in, select FRAC from the drop-down available in this section: “Please provide the name of the organization that nominated you for funding.” If you are applying for a grant to address food insecurity in marginalized communities, you will be asked to provide the following code: HOLDY2020. If you are applying for an Innovation Grant, please select “yes” to the question: “Are you applying for an innovation grant”.
The states with stores include: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wyoming.
