Rural community grants available

We know that kids across the country struggle every day with knowing where their next meal is coming from. And we know that the struggle is even more challenging in rural communities, especially during the summer months when school isn’t in session. This year, the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) wants to work with your community to address those challenges and ensure that kids have access to healthy meals when school is out.

NRPA is pleased to announce the availability of grant funds from the Walmart Foundation to support children’s health and wellness through park and recreation out-of-school time programs in rural communities! Grantees will receive funding to support their efforts around increasing nutritious meals served to youth through the USDA federal nutrition programs, as well as implementing nutrition education and implementing healthy eating and physical activity standards at their sites to ensure continued impacts. NRPA anticipates funding 10 rural communities in Colorado, Kansas and Mississippi with $35,000 in grant fundingto support programmatic expenses like marketing, transportation, large equipment purchases, nutrition education materials, staff training and more!

This grant can help propel your park and recreation agency into the Healthy Out-of-School Time movement! Don’t miss out on this opportunity.

Check out these success stories from 2017 grantees to see how you can make a difference in your community!
