Jeffco Health and partners win breastfeeding award

Jefferson County and Sunrise are the 2017 Gold awardees for the USDA FNS Loving Support Award of Excellence for providing exemplary breastfeeding promotion and support activities! The secret to both agency’s breastfeeding success is their staff, community support and teamwork.

Sunrise begins breastfeeding promotion in pregnancy, with breastfeeding classes for all pregnant clients and great relationships with community partners. Partnering with local hospitals to provide WIC pumps and working closely with the Northern Colorado Breastfeeding Coalition has helped to reduce barriers and improve breastfeeding support in the community.

“We have an amazing staff that is passionate about helping our WIC families reach their breastfeeding goal,” stated Kailin Hamilton of Sunrise WIC. “It truly does take a village to sustain breastfeeding. And that village makes all the difference.”

The awards are provided each year as a part of USDA’s National WIC Breastfeeding Week to reward and honor WIC programs that operate model breastfeeding programs. Jefferson County and Sunrise join Tri-County, Denver and Boulder WIC agencies as Gold awardees. The awards are for good for four years. Click here for more information.
