New resources to promote Medicaid benefits for quitting tobacco

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is pleased to relaunch a statewide campaign in English and Spanish to educate Medicaid enrollees about the benefits available to help them quit smoking.

The “Quitting Smoking is Covered with Medicaid!” campaign will feature Facebook, online and mobile display ads, and radio targeted to Colorado counties with tobacco use of 20 percent or higher. The campaign will run from December 2016 to May 2017 with ads targeting the general Medicaid population as well as pregnant women. New downloadable resources are also available to support campaign messaging; State Tobacco Education and Prevention Partnership (STEPP) Grantees can access the new templates via COHealthResources.org.

The mass media campaign is part of a larger effort to encourage physicians to educate patients about cessation benefits, such as counseling and medications, available to them as part of their health insurance with Medicaid.
