Health department publishes maternal mortality paper

Members of the Colorado Maternal Mortality Review Committee have published "Maternal Deaths From Suicide and Overdose in Colorado, 2004-2012" in the December 2016 issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology. The percentage of pregnancy-associated deaths attributed to suicide and accidental overdose has been increasing over the years, accounting for almost one third (30%) of all pregnancy-associated deaths. To better understand demographic and clinical characteristics of such cases, MMRC members conducted an in depth chart review. These findings highlight the continued need to address maternal mental health during the pregnant and postpartum time period.
