Durango Herald supports $2.5 million state budget request for family planning

The Colorado Family Planning Initiative has helped cut teen births and abortions by half in the past five years by training health care providers and lowering the cost barrier to long-acting reversible contraceptives - IUDs and implants. Private funding for this initiative expired earlier this year and a coalition of Colorado foundations stepped in to provided more than $2 million in "bridge" funding. This year, Gov. Hickenlooper has included in his budget request $2.5 million to continue the program. The Durango Herald published an editorial recently in support of the funding request.
