Suicide data shows most deaths ever in Colorado

Whenever it's time for this annual report, Sally Spencer-Thomas has hope. She hopes that the data on suicides in Colorado will show something different. It did, but not in a good way.

"We're hoping to see trends going in the other direction, but the truth of the matter is, you know, we're a group of about 20 committed individuals, many of us are volunteers trying to stem one of the largest public health issues in the state of Colorado," Spencer-Thomas said.

Spencer-Thomas is the chairperson of the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Colorado, a collection of advocates and mental health professionals.

"Colorado has a significant issue with suicide," Spencer-Thomas said. "We are seventh in the nation for highest rates of suicide death and yet our resources to fight this battle are minimal."
