El Paso County Health launches youth tobacco prevention campaign

The Tobacco Education and Prevention Partnership (TEPP) program at El Paso County Public Health announces the launch of a new mass media campaign, “Tobacco Targets Youth.” The campaign will air on television and radio stations in El Paso County, as well as online, from March 30 through May 24 and is intended to raise awareness of the youth tobacco problem in El Paso County. The Public Service Announcements feature local teens and were filmed at Palmer High School in Colorado Springs.

The campaign is being launched in conjunction with a free upcoming event featuring former tobacco industry insider, La Tanisha Wright. Miss Wright will expose industry retail marketing tactics employed by Big Tobacco and discuss how communities can take action to protect children from tobacco addiction. The event is sponsored in partnership with Kaiser Permanente and will take place Thursday, April 23, 5-8 p.m., at Centennial Hall in Colorado Springs, 200 S. Cascade Ave. In addition to Miss Wright’s presentation, community members are invited to participate in a town hall meeting, featuring a panel of local experts who will engage in a dialogue about how to protect youth from becoming life-long tobacco users.
