Review, Update, and Strengthen Your Local Wellness Policy

This spring the Colorado Department of Education Office of School Nutrition and the Colorado Education Initiative will offer four regional training sessions aimed at increasing school districts’ ability to update local wellness policy to address best practices in school health and determine strategies to assess and implement policy. Participants will learn:

o The importance of local wellness policies

o Federal and state legislation related to school health, social/emotional wellness and competitive foods

o How district policy works

o How to analyze local wellness policy language and identify needed updates

o How to engage partners

o Implementation strategies to include Healthier US School Challenge, Smarter Lunchrooms and Smart Snacks in School

Training locations include La Junta (3/10), Fort Morgan (3/24), Denver (4/23) and Montrose (4/29).
