URGENT: Letters of Intent for Amendment 35 RFAs due Wednesday

Please note that anyone applying for funds under any of the Amendment 35 RFAs must submit a non-binding Letter of Intent by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014.  If the Letter of Intent is not received by this deadline, a grant application cannot be accepted by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. We understand that there has been some confusion and concern generated by the requirement of a letter of intent.  Please note:

  • Letters of Intent are not binding and there is no penalty for applicants whose applications deviate from their letter.
  • The A35 grant programs do not require approval from boards of health, county commissioners or fiscal officers prior to the submission of a Letter of Intent.
  • There is no page limit for the Letter of Intent.
  • The letter of intent process was instituted to help the Department expedite the application review and award grants in an efficient and effective manner by determining the volume of applications related to strategy areas - this will allow CDPHE to appropriately staff application review teams.
  • If you plan to submit applications for multiple A35 grant programs, they each will require a Letter of Intent.
  • Community Tobacco Initiatives Grants Program Specific: Minimum Number of Required Strategies is based on the Total Awarded Dollar Amount. For example: if the combined budget for a multi-county collaboration or multi-county agency is within $50,001-$200,000, proposed work must include a minimum of three Strategies. An applicant must incorporate the Required Strategy for their chosen goal area(s), and may choose from the list of additional optional strategies as well to get to a total number of strategies needed based on the funding amount. Lead Agency or agency serving multiple counties must align the number of strategies based on the total requested budget and expected award as defined in the RFA.
  • Please refer to the appropriate RFA for the only issued guidance on the required components.
  • Please note, an email confirmation of receipt will be sent to everyone who submits a Letter of Intent. If you do not receive an email confirmation of receipt please contact us at: 303.692.2698.

These requirements apply to each of the Amendment 35 grants programs - Cancer, Cardiovascular, and Pulmonary Disease Grants Program, Health Disparities Grants Program, and the Tobacco Education, Prevention and Cessation Grants Program.  Due to the requirements of the state procurement and grants process failure to submit a letter of intent will result in the rejection of a subsequent application.
