Did You Know, Colorado? March 19, 2014

  • "Enjoy the Taste of Eating Right" is the theme for National Nutrition Month® 2014. Consumer research confirms that taste tops nutrition as the main reason why one food is purchased over another. While social, emotional and health factors also play a role, the foods people enjoy are likely the ones they eat most.
  • 83% of adult Coloradans are trying to eat healthier, according to a 2009 CDPHE study. However, many report barriers to healthy eating, such as the price of fruits and vegetables (44%), not having time to cook healthy foods (42%), and not knowing how to cook healthy foods (28%).
  • 45% of adult Coloradans say they would eat healthier foods if they tasted better, and 48% say they would make healthier meals for their families if they would eat them.
