National Diabetes Education Program Webinar: Using Plain Language to Make Diabetes Messages Clear and Simple

Mark your calendar for Tuesday, November 12 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. MST for the National Diabetes Education Program’s (NDEP) webinar, “Using Plain Language to Make Diabetes Messages Clear and Simple” featuring Wendy Mettger, M.A., President of Mettger Communications.
Clear communication can make a difference when it comes to helping a person understand and use health information to make good health care decisions. During this webinar, health literacy expert Wendy Mettger, M.A., will review the problem of low health literacy in the United States, explain why plain language can make a difference, and share insight to improve understanding of barriers to comprehension. Using the NDEP’s patient education publications, Ms. Mettger will explain principles of plain language from the content development stage to the field testing with audience members stage. Ms. Mettger will also highlight “before” and “after” examples to illustrate how NDEP used these plain language principles to make the materials easier to read and understand.
In addition, Joanne Gallivan, M.S., R.D., Director of NDEP at the National Institutes of Health will discuss the NDEP’s plain language review process and introduce the latest NDEP publications revised using plain language principles.
