Youth Suicide Prevention and Intervention Symposium

The Colorado Department of Education, the Colorado Office of Suicide Prevention, and the Colorado School Safety Resource Center are hosting a Youth Suicide Prevention and Intervention Symposium on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, 8:00-3:30 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Grand Junction.
Pre-registration is required (see below). 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
  • School personnel: superintendents, principals, other administrators, school psychologists, social workers, counselors, SROs, nurses, support staff and teachers
  • Community mental health professionals working with schools

AGENDA TOPICS:
  • Keynote address by Russell Copelan, MD: Youth Nonideation Suicidality
  • Current youth suicide issues overview
  • School-based suicide prevention programs and planning
  • A comprehensive approach: prevention, assessment and postvention
  • Interactive training panels

KEYNOTE SPEAKER:
Russell Copelan, MD is a faculty member in anatomical studies at Colorado Mesa University, studying youth suicidality in one of the world’s leading suicide districts. Dr. Copelan was formerly on the faculty of the University of Colorado, an emergency room psychiatrist to the Taranaki Base Hospital in New Plymouth, New Zeland and a neurosciences medical staff member of Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. Dr. Copelan has presented his research on youth nonideation violence worldwide and has been published in medical literature.
