With thousands of
Coloradans soon to have Medicaid and private insurance coverage for sexual health services – including all
methods of FDA-approved contraceptives and STD/STI testing, prevention and
treatment – more health care professionals may be providing this care for their
patients. Recently there have been
updates in clinical best practice for these issues, and through Beforeplay.org, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has made available several up to date resources to assist in providing
high quality care. Here there is
easy access to Colorado’s Contraceptive Guidelines, Preconception Guidelines,
CDC’s STD Treatment Guidelines, information specific to the use of long-acting
reversible contraception (the most effective methods) and tools for counseling
patients and taking a sexual history.
In
this time of greater ability to serve a broader range of patient’s primary
health needs, these easy-to-access and up-to-date resources should be shared
and used to help patients benefit from this new “no-copay; no-deductible”
coverage.
