The Prevention Services Division at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has made some temporary
organizational changes in the in the Healthy Living and Chronic Disease Prevention Branch (HLCDP) to cover vacant positions and continue to provide services to prevention partners and the public.
Starting Nov. 1, Dr. Ken Gershman will be directing
PSD’s Epidemiology, Planning and Evaluation (EPE) Branch to fill a vacant
leadership position. Ken's time will be split 60/40 between his leadership of
EPE and his new role as Medical Advisor for HLCDP. Ken will continue to serve
as the Interim Tobacco Program Manager and direct the Department's Cancer,
Cardiovascular, and Pulmonary Disease grants program until Nov. 1, when we expect to fill the recently posted tobacco
position. Ken brings a strong background in epidemiology and an analytic focus
to EPE from his many years in DCEED. His medical background will benefit our
efforts in addressing Health Systems and Clinical/Community Linkages domains of
the Chronic Disease State Plan.
As of Oct. 1, Dr. Gabriel Kaplan will serve as the Acting
Director of HLCDP. Gabriel has been involved
with HLCDP Branch projects through his previous work in our EPE Branch and his
current role as Director of our Policy, Systems and Analytics Branch. His
policy experience will be key in the Environmental/ Policy Domain of the
Chronic Disease State Plan.
Please continue to give both Dr. Gershman and Dr. Kaplan
your support as they take on these new roles. We look forward to continuing to
work with you to improve the health of all Coloradans. Please contact Karen Trierweiler, Interim Division Director, with questions or concerns.
