The Diabetes Prevention Program and Preconception Health

Preventing diabetes among future parents can decrease chronic disease in their children. The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) is an ideal way to help women of reproductive age who are at risk for type 2 diabetes decrease both their risk and their weight, therefore decreasing their baby's future risk of obesity and diabetes.

The Predisposition to Obesity and Diabetes in Offspring of Diabetic Mothers

The Diabetes Prevention Program has been proven to help people with pre-diabetes lower their blood sugar levels and prevent type 2 diabetes.Taught by trained lifestyle coaches, this 16-week program includes weekly sessions on nutrition, reading food labels, dealing with stress without overeating and increasing physical activity.

Eligibility for the DPP includes, but is not limited to, overweight and sedentary adults and women with a history of gestational diabetes. Please call 1-800-DIABETES or go here to find recognized DPP programs in Colorado.
