Denver Fifth Fittest City

Bear Creek Park Trail
The Twin Cities - Minneapolis-St.Paul - are the healthiest, fittest cities in the United States for the third year in a row, according to an analysis of the 50 most populous metropolitan areas by the American College of Sports Medicine. Rounding out the top five, in order, are Washington, D.C., Portland, San Francisco and Denver, up from ninth last year.

The annual ACSM American Fitness Index is based on a number of health behaviors, including smoking, exercise, obesity rates, chronic health problems and access to health care. It also looks at the environment, including availability of parks, recreational facilities, walking trails and farmers' markets. The fitness index was designed by health and medical experts.
Oklahoma City - which right now is dealing with bigger issues now in the aftermath of the devastating tornado that hit Moore, Okla., came in last on the list of fittest cities. Detroit came in second to last.
