Hickenlooper Signs Farm to School Task Force Reauthorization

Gov. Hickenlooper signs SB-153
Gov. John Hickenlooper on Friday signed legislation reauthorizing and expanding the work of the Colorado Farm to School Task Force. The task force was formed by the legislature in 2010 to study, develop and recommend farm to school policies and practices. This year's legislation continues the work of the task force, expands membership from 13 to 15 stakeholders and adds data collection methods to its duties.

Farm to school has grown from 22 public school districts in 2010 to 64 public school districts in 2012. The Task Force has analyzed farm to school policy and regulations, developed resources on legislative trends, food safety, and government purchasing; supported pilot programs in Denver, Greeley and Fort Lupton; created the Farm to School Evaluation Toolkit to guide new farm to school programs; and designed a website,, that provides one-stop shopping for all things farm to school.
