LGBT Strategic Health Plan Draws Praise

Following is a letter from a funder of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment LGBT Health Outcomes Planning Process (HOPP), a first of its kind plan to address the health disparities of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Coloradans. For more information, contact Julie Graves.

Dear Dr. Urbina:

I am writing to congratulate you on the publication of the Strategic Plan for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Health in Colorado. When we extended our awards program to twenty-four states and tribal organizations last spring, we anticipated that the funds would be used wisely and would help to promote the use of Healthy People 2020 throughout the nation. The work that Colorado has done with this award clearly surpassed our expectations and your document will, I am sure, inspire other states to follow suit.

We have seen a welcome increase within public health efforts to reduce disparities and ensure
that there is health equity in policies and services for all Americans. Your agency has shown real leadership in engaging the LGBT community and making commitments to inclusion over time so that we can continue to learn from your efforts and to share this work with other Healthy People 2020 stakeholders.

Thank you for the support that you have given to this project and please convey our warmest
regards to the staff of the Epidemiology, Planning and Evaluation Branch.

Sincerely,

Geri Tebo, R.N., M.A.
Public Health Advisor
Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion
