Durango City Council Approves Smoke-Free Ordinance

The Durango City Council on Monday approved a smoke-free ordinance for the city owned parks and playgrounds, the Animas River Trail and bus stops.

The Lasso Tobacco and Celebrating Community Norms coalitions spent three years pushing this policy change to protect youth and other community members from secondhand smoke. The Coalition represents more than 20 agencies committed to actively educating the community about the health risks of secondhand smoke and the negative influence that smoking in public places has on youth norms.
Pat Senecal, Health Policy and Systems director for San Juan Basin Health Department, recognized the positive impact the new ordinance would have on community health and thanked city officials who made it possible
