Upcoming Livestream: ECOP Message Testing Results

CDPHE's Early Childhood Obesity Prevention Team invites you to join a Livestream event to learn the results of a message testing project relating to preconception healthy weight, appropriate gestational weight gain, developmental screening, oral health, and obesity prevention in early childhood. This event will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2012 from 1:30-3:00 pm.

CDPHE and many Colorado early childhood partners have identified the promotion of consistent messaging as a priority strategy in achieving good health in the earliest years of life. During the Livestream event, contractor JVA Consulting, LLC will present research results from key informant interviews with health care providers and focus groups throughout the state with grandparents, pregnant women, and mothers and fathers of children ages 0-5 years. The results of this project will assist CDPHE in disseminating consumer-tested, effective messages that can be promoted consistently throughout Colorado communities in health care settings, child care facilities, WIC clinics, public health services, and other venues accessed by women of child bearing age and families with young children.

The obesity prevention messages tested in the focus groups were initially informed by recommendations of an advisory group whose members represented several organizations and programs. These messages were then revised according to survey feedback and comments from over 230 stakeholders, including state and local Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) staff, home visitors, a wide range of health care providers, health educators, researchers, state and local program planners and administrators, and others. Messages related to oral health and developmental screening were informed by representatives of CDPHE’s partner organizations.

This project is funded by Colorado’s Maternal and Child Health Program.
