PSD Hiring a Director of the Health Systems Unit

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment's Prevention Services Division is hiring for the position of Director of the Health Systems Unit.

The Director of the Health Systems Unit leads the Division’s efforts to promote changes in the way health care is delivered to patients, paid for by third parties such as health plans and public programs, and organized within provider settings such as hospitals, clinics and medical practices.  The present moment provides an unprecedented opportunity to create positive, lasting change to the health care system.  The ideal candidate will forge strategic partnerships with policy makers and local, state, and national entities to advance effective strategies for preventing and managing chronic diseases, for reducing the incidence of injuries, for promoting maternal and child health, and for enhancing access to primary care and oral health.   Working closely with partners associated with health information technology, accountable care collaboratives, health plans, and others, this position will need to broker, negotiate, and forge productive relationships that ensure health plans provide coverage for clinical prevention services, and assist provider practices in adopting health promotion models, such as the patient-centered medical home.

The Director of the Health Systems Unit will oversee 5 full time positions and will be responsible for day to day management of a unit that represents a cutting-edge, public health approach to policy, systems, and environmental change.  It will maintain state-level expertise in initiatives that re-organize the delivery and financing of health care systems and will be responsible for educating the public health sector about the evidence-base behind interventions that alter provider and payer behavior. The job requires implementation skills such as developing strategic plans, designing interventions, developing and managing budgets, developing and overseeing contracts, supervising program managers and staff responsible for public health interventions, and overseeing program evaluation.  The position must be aware of and familiar with the meaning of related surveillance data, and current literature on promising practices and trends in the field.

The position announcement closes on August 27, 2012.  To learn more and to apply, view the Director of the Health Systems Unit Position Announcement.
