In supporting the use of locally grown food
in schools, Colorado’s Farm to School Task Force is examining state procurement
laws that govern in-state food purchases by government. These state food procurement preferences have
the potential to improve community health and strengthen local economies. This publication, Government Purchasing Preferences that Support Local Farmers: A 50 State Review, examines individual
procurement statutes, describes six nationwide trends and details Colorado’s
current procurement statute governing local food purchases. For more information, please contact Susan Motika.
