Lakewood passes stronger smoking ordinance

The Lakewood City Council passed an ordinance April 9 that strengthens the city's restrictions on smoking near public entrances, bans new hookah and cigar/tobacco bars, prohibits minors from entering tobacco businesses and makes city-owned parks and other public facilities smoke-free. County health officials call the new protections less stringent than those requested by public health advocates and residents surveyed, but a step toward a healthier Lakewood.
