U.S. Senate Hearing Highlights Lack of Dental Care Access

Senator Bernie Sander’s report, "The Dental Crisis in America: The Need to Expand Access," was presented to the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, & Pensions at a hearing yesterday.

The report focused on several access issues, focusing on the problem that “those who need care the most are the least likely to get it.” It also noted a shortage of providers will to serve those with the greatest needs. Many use emergency rooms for preventable dental issues, costing the United States nearly $110 million in 2006.

Several potential solutions to increase access to dental care were addressed in the report and during the hearing. Click HERE for Sander's message and access to the report. Click HERE for a five-minute summary of the hearing.
