This presentation will cover CLOCC’s approach to addressing equity and health disparities in the context of city-wide change strategies that—without an equity lens—might further disparities. Specifically, Dr. Becker will describe how work is done in disparity communities and how disparities are considered in city-wide policy change strategies. Dr. Becker will share examples from Chicago’s “Communities Putting Prevention to Work” obesity prevention initiative.

  • Identify potential challenges to addressing equity within a jurisdiction-wide approach to policy, systems and environmental change.
  • Describe structures and processes within a large obesity prevention consortium that specifically address engagement with communities experiencing health and obesity disparities.
