We Want You! To lend your voice for LGBT Health in Colorado!

The LGBT Health Outcomes Planning Project (HOPP) at the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment is gearing up for the next stage in the project, and we are putting out a call to every lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and straight ally Coloradan to let your voice be heard!

Starting this Thursday, January 12, 2012, LGBT HOPP writing groups will start meeting to draft our plan and set our strategic direction for the next five years. What should be our priorities? How can we ensure that community voices are heard and diverse needs are recognized? Now is the time for you to step up and help answer these important questions. This writing process will be spread over the next few months, and we will need a team of diverse, committed people to make it happen.

Here are three ways you can get involved:

1) Sign up for one of the three LGBT writing groups. Group 1 is focusing on prevention, intervention, and health care services for LGBT people (Coordinator is Bob.Bongiovanni@state.co.us). Group 2 is focusing on the promotion of broader community movement and change (Coordinator is Bonnie.Moya@state.co.us). Group 3 will take up policy and political action (Coordinator is Indira.Gujral@state.co.us). You can sign up, and get more information, by emailing the coordinator for the group.

2) Attend one of the writing group meetings on January 12 from 10 AM – Noon at CDPHE, 4300 Cherry Creek Drive South, Denver/Glendale, Building C. If you request it, you could participate by teleconference. Just let the respective coordinator (above) know. If you can’t make the January 12 date, there will be more dates in the future. Give us your email address and we will keep you posted.

3) Volunteer to be a resource person. We know not everyone has the time or schedule flexibility to attend a lot of meetings. But maybe you have a particular area of interest or expertise and want to know how to “plug in” for a few hours on that specific topic. Email one of the coordinators (above) and let them know your interest. We will be doing a lot of the writing via the internet, so you could even help the effort without ever attending face-to-face.

What is needed to make this a success? YOUR INVOLVEMENT. To learn more about HOPP, go to: http://www.coprevent.org/2011/08/lgbt-health-outcomes-planning-project.html

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP IN HELPING US MAKE COLORADO A HEALTHIER HOME FOR LGBT PEOPLE!
