The Safe States Alliance, a national organization with mission to strengthen the practice of injury and suicide prevention, is hosting a webinar discussion facilitated by Billie Weiss, MPH, a leader in the field of violence prevention at the Southern California Injury Prevention Research Center. The discussion will provide participants with opportunity to share their insights on the roles public health should play in violence prevention and how these roles can be enhanced at all levels.

The facilitated discussion is in support of the recently released publication titled, "Preventing Violence: Roles for Public Health Agencies" and supporting resources such as the executive summaries and fact sheets. Preventing Violence provides insights on the role of public health in violence prevention as identified by a roundtable of twenty-four experts and stakeholders in April 2010. The executive summaries highlight the important roles national, state, and local public health agencies play in preventing violence, and provides guidance for the public health community to prevent violence before it occurs.
