This webinar, the second in a series focused on policy as a tool for population health improvement, will discuss the legal distinctions between policymaker education, advocacy, and lobbying, and clarify what policy activities health department staff can legally engage in. The webinar will feature the former chief legal advisor to the CDC discussing the importance of health departments engaging elected officials on public health matters and providing guidance for related policy activities, an expert on lobbying laws from the Alliance for Justice discussing the various legal definitions of lobbying, and a former state health department bureau director sharing lessons learned from the field about how to effectively and legally engage in policy work.
