HHS Secretary Sebelius - Washington Post OpEd on Protecting Youth from Big Tobacco

Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services, wrote an opinion piece in the Sep 1 issue of the Washington Post on protecting our youth from tobacco that is worth a read.  In the article, Secretary Sebelius cites the need for continued tobacco labeling/control legislation and limiting youth-oriented advertising.  She also notes the need for smoke cessation counseling programs and promotes the 1-800-QUIT-NOW number that is to be included on the new warning labels.

The Colorado Quitline is a partner in this effort.  Via the Quitline, users can gain access to a personally tailored quit program, nicotine replacement therapy, support network, telephone coaching, and tools/tips based on the latest research.  The Colorado Quitline is a free program and those interest in enrolling can enroll online, call 1-800 QUIT-NOW or visit the Colorado Quitline site for more information.

In addition, there are exciting new support options in the works including Facebook and Twitter-based support groups and more so the need for help and info will be even more widely available!  For questions regarding the Colorado Quitline, contact Emma Goforth at emma.goforth@dphe.state.co.us
