New Website Launched for Larimer County Youth Who Are “Doing IT?”

Larimer CountyLarimer County teens and young adults have a new place to go to learn about doing IT?. The Teen Pregnancy Prevention Action Group (TPPAG) of Larimer County recently launched its website: www.larimerdoingit.org. It features reproductive health and life planning information, and links to local resources. It is part of a larger social media campaign that includes Facebook (facebook.com/larimerdoingit), Twitter (@larimerdoingit) and YouTube.

The campaign’s tagline, “doing IT? Think Ahead. Plan Now.”, was developed by a team of local youth. They decided the best way to share their message was through the electronic and social media that is such a natural part of their everyday lives.

“The new website and Facebook page allow teens to easily access any information they may need,” said TPPAG member and high school student Jeanette Yanez. “Information about sex is hard to find from reliable sources and asking about sex is even harder. Being able to log onto Facebook or the doing IT? website means there’s no need to feel uncomfortable reaching out for answers.”

According to Kori Wilford, health educator with the Larimer County Department of Health & Environment’s Family Planning Program, doing IT? Think Ahead. Plan Now. is a great opportunity for teens to get involved in creating media and sharing crucial information with other teens in a way that is relevant to their lives. This new campaign focuses on providing accurate information and resources about sexual health and encourages teens to plan now for a healthy future. The website provides one more resource for local teens."

TPPAG is recruiting more teens to serve on the doing IT? team. Information and an application can be found on the “Get Involved” page on the doing IT? website. Applications are due by Friday, September 30; there will be a training for new members on Saturday, October 8.
