Marketing in the Public Sector

"Next to doing the right thing, the most important thing is to let people know you are doing the right thing." -John D. Rockefeller

Does marketing belong in public health??

Marketing in the public sector may actually be a final frontier. Although by nature of our work public health professionals are 'marketers' we seldom think of ourselves that way. We can (and do) use a blend of the infamous 4 P's - product (or service), place, price and promotion - as well as other marketing techniques to transform our communications with stakeholders, improve performance, and demonstrate a positive return on the resources we are endowed with.

This publication briefly explains the difference between the public and private sector marketing models and helps public sector understand what types of marketing we may want to engage and how each may help to build relational capital.

Marketing in the Public Sector was developed by the Asian Development Bank.
