Community Outreach Youth Intern - Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment – Denver, CO

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Prevention Services Division is hiring youth interns!

The purpose of this position is to coordinate youth-led social media activities to promote, strengthen and advance public health programs and initiatives with a focus on the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) winnable battles - obesity, unintended pregnancy, tobacco, injury, oral health, mental health and substance abuse, clean air, clean water, safe food, prevent infections (Winnable Battles Fact Sheet). This position will work with CDPHE staff to: develop a website for Colorado youth to include a health news stream, internship and volunteer opportunities, youth-oriented training opportunities and resources and services offered to youth; develop a social media plan to promote the website; coordinate with youth advisory boards and other youth coalitions throughout the state; promote the website through social media channels; and maintain and update content for the site regularly.

It is preferred that the person(s) in this position be between the ages of 16 and 24. This is a flexible position located in Denver. We anticipate hiring 1-4 youth at this time and hours per week will be determined based on availability (we anticipate 10-30 hours per week). Positions will be paid positions and will last for up to six months. Deadline for submitting applications is August 14.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of the internet and some social media tools
  • Interest in promoting health
  • Ability and interest in working with youth and adults
  • Interest in designing and writing content for websites
  • Interest in developing social media strategies
  1. Work with CDPHE staff to develop and build a structure for a website
  2. Coordinate with content experts and youth to develop content for the website
  3. Develop a social media plan to promote the website statewide
  4. Promote the website utilizing social media channels
  5. Maintain and update the content for the site regularly
Note: The initial position will last for 6 months. It is anticipated that, during this time period, the first two activities can be completed.
