Colorado Black Health Collaborative - 4th Annual Family Reunion: Community Health Forum

Colorado Black Health Collaborative is hosting the 4th Annual Family Reunion: Community Health Forum on Saturday, August 20, 2011, from 1:00 p.m - 5:00 p.m at the Red Lion Hotel (I-225 and 3200 South Parker Road).

Thelma Craig, Chair, Board of Directors, CBHC indicates that "Despite the strides African Americans have made in America, there continues to be health care disparities both nationally and in Colorado. There are mounting statistics reporting that African Americans are disproportionately infected and affected - lacking access to health care, rising rates of heart disease, colon cancer deaths, new cases of HIV/AIDS, late diagnosis of breast cancer - well, you name it and Black/ African Americans are at the top of the list"

The Family Reunion will be a change for the CBHC and partners to raise awareness and increase collaboration on health issues facing African Americans. The Keynote Speaker for the Reunion is Dr. Chris Urbina, Executive Director of the Department of Public Health and Environment. Dr. Urbina will be discussing Colorado's "Winnable Battles, Winnable Solutions."

In addition, the Reunion will feature an exclusive preview screening of The Gospel of Healing, Volume I: Black Churches Respond to HIV/AIDS, a documentary film by Paul V. Grant.

The Reunion will, of course, be an opportunity to collaborate, but also to introduce new tools being used by the Collaborative, including the CBHC Facebook Page.
